WASHINGTON D.C.: Officials report that 100,000 people seeking to enter the United States were detained at the Mexican border in February.

This would be the highest number seeking to cross in February since 2006.

Among those arriving are children without parents, who the United States has scrambled to find housing for.

February's 100,000 number is a marked increase over the 79,000 detained at the southern border in January.

Just this past Wednesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended over 4,500 people seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Republicans remain critical of Biden's loosening the more stringent rules set up by former President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, the top Republican in the House of Representatives, Representative Kevin McCarthy, is seeking a meeting with Biden to discuss the situation on the Mexican border.

"We must acknowledge the border crisis, develop a plan, and, in no uncertain terms, strongly discourage individuals from Mexico and Central America from ever making the dangerous journey to our southern border," McCarthy wrote in the letter to Biden.
