New Delhi News.Net Thursday 20th November, 2008 (IANS)
Himachal Pradesh's popular tourist destination Kufri received the season's first snowfall early Thursday, the meteorological office said.
Just a half-hour drive from here, Kufri, located 2,510 metres above sea level, is known as a honeymooner's paradise.
'Kufri and its nearby areas this morning received 4-8 cm snowfall. This was the first snowfall in Shimla district,' Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office in Shimla, told IANS.
He said Kalpa in Kinnaur district also received 4 cm of snow.
Lower areas of the state including Dharamsala, Shimla, Solan, Nahan and Mandi received moderate to heavy rains, bringing a considerable fall in temperature.
The minimum temperature in Shimla plummeted to 2.8 degrees Celsius from Wednesday's 8 degrees.
Singh said the considerable fall in temperature was due to western disturbances.
