New Delhi News.Net Tuesday 8th July, 2008 (IANS)
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh of spreading communalism, thousands of Congress workers courted arrest here Tuesday to protest communal violence in Indore.
The Congress workers were led by several leaders including state Congress president Suresh Pachouri and Congress general secretaries V. Narayanasamy and Digvijay Singh.
They took out a rally from Tin Shed area to the state capital's main Roshanpura crossing where the leaders addressed the protestors.
The Congress alleged that the BJP government was to blame for the communal violence in the state.
They demanded a judicial probe into last week's violence in Indore that followed the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to take back land the Amarnath shrine board had been given for pilgrims' facilities.
The Congress demanded the payment of Rs.1 million to the kin of each of the six people killed in Indore as well as in Satna town besides jobs for a member of each affected family.
