Andhra Pradesh to get 150 more ambulances

The Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI), a non-profit organization founded and funded by Satyam Computers' chairman B. Ramalinga Raju Tuesday entered into an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to provide 150 additional ambulances to run the `108' emergency services.
With this, there will be 602 ambulances servicing the entire state.
EMRI is providing free emergency response services through the toll-free '108' telephone number, accessible from fixed and mobile phones, in all districts of the state.
The institute is conducting operational research and training programmes for improving the quality of emergency response services autonomously in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, said a statement by EMRI.
The institute, which launched the service in Hyderabad in 2005 to help road accident victims, presently provides services in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat with over 620 ambulances and over 4,400 people.
EMRI is currently saving over 100 lives per day and has so far saved over 29,000 people. With technical support provided by Satyam Computers among its other associates and partners in PPP mode, EMRI plans to extend the service throughout India by 2010 and save a million lives per annum.
The state government last year entered into an agreement with it to make the services available for all emergencies.
It is is a not-for-profit organization founded and funded by B. Ramalinga Raju, chairman Satyam Computers, and his brothers. Pioneering the emergency services in PPP mode, EMRI is the only organised, professional emergency service provider in the country.
It has collaborations with American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, American Academy of Emergency Medicine in India, National Emergency Number Association, Richmond Ambulance Authority, US, City of Austin in Texas, R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Centre, Stanford University, and Singapore Health Services Pvt. Ltd.
EMRI also offers a two-year full-time residential post-graduate programme in emergency care. This programme is the first of its kind in India that will deliver the highest quality education and comprehensive training in the field of emergency care services.
